The honest answer: the British Virgin Islands are wonderful year-round. But different times of year offer meaningfully different experiences.

Peak season: December through April

Winter is the most popular time to charter for good reason. Trade winds are consistent, seas are calm, visibility is excellent, and temperatures average around 80°F. The BVI is at its busiest during these months — popular anchorages and beach bars are lively, and the overall atmosphere is festive.

Christmas and New Year’s weeks are the busiest of the year and book earliest. If the holidays matter to you, plan well in advance.

Shoulder season: May through July

May is traditionally one of the quietest months in the BVI, and many experienced charter guests consider it the best-kept secret on the calendar. The anchorages are emptier, the beaches are less crowded, and the pace is noticeably more peaceful. Temperatures creep up slightly into the mid-80s but remain comfortable, especially on the water.

Some beach bars and restaurants operate on reduced hours or close for portions of the summer, so if visiting a specific location is important to your itinerary, it is worth checking ahead.

Hurricane season: August through October

Aquanimity does not charter August through October. This is hurricane season in the Caribbean, and it is the right time for the boat and crew to rest, maintain the vessel, and prepare for the next season.

For most guests, the ideal booking window is December through July, with peak season offering the most reliable conditions and shoulder season offering the most privacy.
