The British Virgin Islands are widely considered the finest sailing grounds in the Western Hemisphere. What to do on a BVI sailing vacation

Snorkel the caves at Norman Island. The Indians, The Caves — these are legendary snorkeling sites that most tourists reach by day boat. You get there before them and stay after they leave.

Eat lobster at Anegada. The most remote island in the BVI, accessible by sail. Fresh lobster pulled from the reef and served at your table on the beach. One of the great meals in the Caribbean.

Drink a Painkiller at the Soggy Dollar Bar. Jost Van Dyke. No dock — you swim ashore. The original Painkiller was invented here. Non-negotiable stop.

Float in the Bubbly Pool. A natural rock formation on Jost Van Dyke where waves force water through a narrow passage creating a natural jacuzzi. Best at swell.

Walk The Baths at Virgin Gorda. Giant granite boulders forming sea pools and grottos along the shore. One of the most photographed places in the Caribbean.

Anchor somewhere private. Your captain knows anchorages that are not on any tourist map. Empty bays, clear water, no other boats. These are the moments people remember.

How long do you need?

Seven nights is the standard and the right amount of time. It gives you enough days to reach the outer islands (Anegada, Jost Van Dyke) while still having time for the main BVI destinations. Shorter charters are available but feel rushed. Longer charters are available and worth it if your group wants to slow down.

Do you need sailing experience?
