A realistic breakdown

On a typical BVI charter, the yacht motors roughly 70% of the time and sails about 30%. This is because the passages between popular destinations are often directly upwind or in very light air, making motoring the more practical and comfortable choice for getting where you want to go on a reasonable timeline.

If you love sailing

If maximizing sailing time is a priority — because you enjoy the experience of being under sail — let us know. When the itinerary allows for flexibility in routing and timing, your captain can often incorporate additional sailing simply for the enjoyment of it. A longer tack, an overnight passage, or a less direct route can add meaningful sailing time without significantly changing your overall experience of the BVI.

If sailing is not the point

Many guests are chartering because they want to visit specific places, relax on the water, and eat well. They are perfectly happy to motor efficiently from one anchorage to the next. There is no wrong answer here.

Your captain will read your group and calibrate accordingly. The boat exists to serve your vacation, not the other way around.
