What Your Captain Actually Does
Your captain is a licensed professional with thousands of sea miles. Every morning, they check the weather, plan the day’s route, and brief you on what to expect. They handle the sails, the engine, the anchor, the mooring lines, and the dinghy. They know every anchorage, every reef, every restaurant, and every shortcut between islands.
You will not be asked to pull ropes or steer. If you want to try, your captain will happily teach you — but there is zero obligation. Some guests sail every day. Others never touch a line and spend the whole week on the trampoline. Both are perfectly normal.
The BVI Is Ideal for First-Timers
The British Virgin Islands have short distances between islands, protected waters, and reliable trade winds. Passages between destinations are typically one to three hours, with land almost always visible. The anchorages are sheltered and most sailing takes place within the protected waters of the island chain, making the BVI especially comfortable for first-time charter guests.
