Crew gratuity is one of the very few expenses not included in your all-inclusive charter rate, and it is worth understanding before you arrive.

The standard

Throughout the Caribbean, the customary crew gratuity is between 15% and 20% of the base charter price. On a $22,000 charter, that works out to $3,300 to $4,400 for the week, typically split between the captain and chef.

Why it matters

Your crew works from early morning until late in the evening, often after you have gone to bed for the night. Meals are prepared fresh, the boat is kept clean, the itinerary is constantly being optimized, and the crew is always on watch for your safety and comfort. Gratuity is the primary way they are recognized for that effort.

When and how to pay

Gratuity is most commonly given in cash at the end of the charter, directly to the captain, who then distributes it with the chef. Some guests prefer to split it separately and hand it to each crew member personally — both approaches are perfectly fine.

It is always discretionary

The amount is entirely at your discretion and should reflect your experience. Most guests who have an exceptional week give generously, and exceptional weeks are what we aim to deliver.
